On March 7, 1992 at 8:33 am, seismographs record an extremely localized event at 8.1 on the Richter Scale. Several witnesses report a volcanic eruption at Watchtower Mountain, despite the region having no recent history of volcanic activity. Highway patrol officers dispatched to the area are unable to locate any of the 1,104 residents of the nearby town of Spruceridge, and further search and rescue operations turn up nothing.
